Under These Stars operates underthesestars.in. This policy explains, in plain language, what personal data we collect, why we need it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. No legal jargon.
A note on your birth date, time and location
We know date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth can feel sensitive — these are the same details used in kundali, matrimony, and astrology. We use them only to compute the star positions for your poster. We never share or sell them, and we remove these personal details from our records 30 days after your order is complete.
We collect only what is needed to generate and deliver your poster:
Email address
To send your download link, a one-time reminder before your files are removed, and — if your payment doesn't complete — a single message to help you finish your order. Also used if you contact support.
Name
Used only to personalise the dedication text on your poster.
City, latitude, longitude
Required to compute exact star positions for your location.
Date and time
Required to compute the sky at your specific moment.
Occasion, title choice, custom text
Used to generate your poster's title and dedication.
Payment confirmation ID
We never see or store your card, UPI, or bank details — Razorpay handles all payment data. We only receive a reference ID confirming the payment.
When you place an order and click Pay, you consent to us processing the details above for the single purpose of creating and delivering your star map. We do not use them for anything else. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us (see below) — though note that some details are needed to complete an order you've already placed.
We only send transactional emails tied to your order — never marketing or promotions:
That's it. Every email includes a way to opt out, and we honour it immediately.
Your poster files and download link stay available for 120 days from your order, so you can re-download and share them whenever you like during that window. After 120 days the files are deleted and the link stops working. The files you've already downloaded are yours to keep and print forever.
After your personal details are removed, we keep only what tax law requires: your email, order ID, amount paid, plan, and payment date. These billing records are retained for the period required under Indian tax (GST) law — currently up to several years — and for nothing else.
We may keep anonymised design choices (theme, colours, layout — with no name, contact, or birth details, and no link back to you) to understand and improve the product. If you ask us to delete your data, we exclude your order from this entirely.
You can ask us to delete your personal data at any time — email us and we'll action it promptly, within 7 business days at the latest. If you ask before the automatic 30-day removal, we delete your personal details and your poster files straight away, keeping only the billing record we are legally required to retain.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for their own purposes. We use the following services strictly to operate our product:

A star map often marks a child's birth. If the details you enter relate to a child, by placing the order you confirm you are the child's parent or guardian, or are otherwise authorised to provide that information. We use the data only to make the poster, and we never profile, track, or advertise to children.
We use essential cookies required for the site to function (session management and the Razorpay payment flow). We also use PostHog, which sets a cookie to count unique visitors and which features are used. PostHog records only the events we name explicitly — not every click, keystroke, or form entry. We do not run advertising pixels or third-party ad networks.
